Teacher Resources for Kenya Mission
From June 15-24, our Kenya teacher training team will serve 20 teachers at the
Mamlaka Primary School at the Kenya Reformed Presbyterian Church in Nairobi’s
infamous Kibera Slum by training, encouraging, and equipping them to teach the
basics, including math, English, and science to the 300 students in their classrooms.
Our team needs your help to provide these teachers with useful resources to
reinforce the lessons and engage students in their classes. Needed items include math and language arts flash cards and small learning
games. They can be new or used (in good condition). In addition, our team will
spend part of each day focusing on the teachers with a devotion as well as time
to make crafts for their classrooms and decorate personalized tote bags for
themselves. The team needs new tote bags and fabric pens/markers (no paints) for
Please pray for the team members as they prepare for their trip and travel. Please drop off donations at the information desk or at the Outreach and Missions house by May 14. If you have any questions about this trip or other short-term trips or about how you can support this trip with resources or financial support for their travel costs,
please contact Karen Chambers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Missionary Housing Needed
Temporary housing is needed for two missionary families. The first is for a couple who will need housing from August 2017–August 2018. This would need to be a home that would be welcoming for visits from their grandchildren. The second need is for a family with three young boys, and housing is needed from October 21–November 7. Please contact Karen Chambers at email@example.com if you have a place for either family, would like more information, or have recommendations or suggestions.
Volunteer to Serve Children in our City as a Buddy/Sidekick
We have a rewarding volunteer opportunity for those of you that work uptown. If you have interest in becoming a buddy/sidekick for an elementary student at an uptown school, please contact Karen Troutman, firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a new opportunity at our church and we will partner with First Ward Creative Arts at 715 North Caldwell street. Your time could be from 30 minutes to an hour, weekly. We look forward to hearing from you!
Our next SHARE collection will be May 28. We will be collecting new or very gently used books for Matthews Elementary & Crestdale Middle School in partnership with Seek the City Summer Camps. It is very important this year to collect many books, as both camps will be held on the campus of Christ Covenant rather than at the schools. Click here for some suggestions of books to purchase. Books can be dropped off in the Youth House, Building B, the main lobby, or in the church office from now until June 19.
If you are not able to bring your donations on Project SHARE Sunday you can drop them off at the Information Desk any Sunday. Every donation is valued. For the list of needs, see the ProjectSHARE page.
Children's Ministry Volunteers Needed
Christ Covenant has a great mission field of nearly 300 young souls every week, ripe for impact. Children’s Ministry invites you to partner with us to help these covenant children know and love God more. We are so excited to help you find a place in Children’s Ministry where you can use your God given gifts and passions.
We have many key positions that need the love that you can provide. If you are 7th grade to 97, we have a place for you in our nurseries (newborns - 2 years), preschool ministry (3 & 4 years old) or elementary (kindergarten-5th grade). We have needs inside the classroom and out, on Sundays at 9 AM, 10:45 AM, and 6 PM. Come and join what God is doing in this exciting and vital ministry.
We would love for you to learn more about available serving opportunities! Please contact Diane Dworek, Early Childhood Ministry Manager, at 704-814-1025 or email@example.com or check out our Needs page on the Children’s Ministry website (children.christcovenant.org).
Prison Ministries Volunteers
Opportunities are open for both men and women, assisting on-site or through correspondence, to provide Bible studies and encouragement. One team will be trained to invest time with prisoners on Wednesday evenings at the Mecklenburg County Jail leading small group Bible studies. A second team of mentors would work with the PCA’s Metanoia Ministries to grade and mail back Bible studies offered to prisoners throughout the United States. To learn more about these opportunities contact our Outreach and
Missions office at 704-814-1064
or firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also email the ministry coordinators Jim and Patti Prieb at email@example.com.
Yarn Lovers Ministry
Pull out your needles and hooks and join this creative ministry at Christ Covenant. If you enjoy crocheting or knitting, or want to learn how, come join us for our monthly meetings. We meet once a month in the morning and once a month in the evening. To find out more, contact Mary Jo Culver at firstname.lastname@example.org or 704-814-1039. All skill levels welcome and needed. More information, including a list of projects and downloadable patterns, is available on the Mission Ministries page. Donations of yarn are always needed and appreciated! Please bring your yarn donations to Mary Jo Culver in her office during the week or at the Info Desk on Sundays. Thank you!
