Life in God’s kingdom is based on truth. Jesus Himself is called the “way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). When you voluntarily seek pastoral counseling, you affirm the view that you need the truth. In fact, this is precisely what you will receive from your pastor-counselor as directed in the Bible:
“But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.”
“Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another”
–Ephesians 4:15, 25

Change that God brings about requires our hard work. This covenant is our agreement to work towards the ends that God desires of us. That is,

God requires:
That His children see truthfulness as part of Christian maturity.
That His children lay aside lying and failure to tell the truth.
That His children tell the truth to each other.

The Church requires:
That saints are committed to unity of the faith by telling the truth;
That saints are acting biblically.
That saints are committed to unity in the home by telling the truth.

The Honesty Covenant requires:
That, by grace, you commit to uphold what “God Requires” and,
That, by grace, you commit to what “The Church Requires.”

I agree with the Honesty Statements above and agree to abide by this covenant.
