Ministries Women’s Bible Studies

Women’s Bible Studies

Women’s Bible Studies (WBS) primarily focus our women on the second of our church values: firmly grounded in faith, connecting women to the Word. The purpose of WBS is for women to become kingdom disciples in the context of community who move towards spiritual maturity through the study, discussion and teaching of a book of the Bible from a covenantal perspective.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom.” – Colossians 3:16a

Our Bible study ministry is the foundation for women’s ministries, as we understand that in His Word God has given us all that we need for “life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us” (2 Peter 1:3).

Each participant in WBS is asked to:

  • study God’s Word on a weekly basis,
  • pray for her sisters in Christ,
  • make attendance to WBS a priority, and
  • make WBS fellowships a priority.

If you have questions about any of our women's Bible studies, please contact Teresa Caldwell at tcaldwell@christcovenant.org.

WEEKLY BIBLE STUDIES
These studies meet once a week during the school year.  Each study has a unique format, so please consider the details carefully.

Proverbs | Tuesdays 11:50 AM-1 PM | SEPT 17 - End of MAY Expand

Dates: Tuesdays, September 17-December 17, January 21-May 26
Time: 11:50 AM - 1 PM
Location: Room WC-211
Facilitators: Fran Wise and Lori Phelps
Cost: $30 for the semester (includes the book: Proverbs, Everyday Wisdom for Everyone by Eric Lane)
No childcare

Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes make up the wisdom literature of the Bible. These books can be distinguished from the Prophets and the histories of the Old Testament by the way truth is revealed in them.

A constituent part of all wisdom in addition to its philosophy, is practical advice and teaching on how to live. Yet the wisdom of the Bible is distinctive, because in all its ways through the heights and depths of human experience it relies on God. Wisdom has its source and beginning in “the fear of the Lord” both in its ideas and equally in its methods and morals. (Reformation Study Bible.

No book of the Bible gives the Christian more practical advice than Proverbs. It covers personal problems like sex, ambition, anxiety, fear, money; family matters such as marriage, parenting, discipline, and education; social questions like neighborliness, friendship, disputes, and litigation; and even politics, from both the rulers’ and citizen’s point of view. (Focus on the Bible)

Revelation | Thursdays 10:00-12:00 PM | SEPT 26 - Late APRIL Expand

Dates: Thursdays, September 26-December 5; January 9-April 23
Time: 10:00-12:00 PM
Facilitator:Sarah Ivill
Location: Community Life Center
Cost: $30 for the semester (includes the book)
Childcare is available. The deadline to reserve a spot in childcare is September 10th.

Revelation
The book of Revelation paints a breathtaking, majestic picture of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the consummation of His kingdom, yet many find it intimidating to study. This should not be! The book of Revelation has much to instruct us in our daily living, comforting us in our suffering, challenging us to forsake our sin, and commending us to serve the Lord joyfully and faithfully. Join us as we unpack the rich truths of Revelation and apply it to our lives today. We will meet weekly with a teaching time followed by small groups.

SEMI-MONTHLY & MONTHLY BIBLE STUDIES

1st & 2nd Thessalonians | 1st & 3rd Wednesdays 7-8:30 PM | SEPT 11 - APRIL 1 Expand

Dates: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, September 11-November 20; January 8-April 1
Time: 7-8:30 PM
Facilitators: Mimi Brady and Toni Grove
Location: Campus Outreach House
$20 (includes the book)

1st & 2nd Thessalonians
“So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God, but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.” –1 Thess. 2:8 ESV

One of Paul’s first letters to the church, the epistle of Thessalonians encourages its readers with assurance and hope. While pointing them to God’s faithfulness, Paul urges believers to pursue lives of holiness, thanksgiving and love in anticipation of Jesus’ second coming. Using Matt Smethurst’s 12-lesson study from the “Knowing the Bible” series published by Crossway as a guide.

1st Timothy | 2nd Saturdays 9:30-11:30 AM | SEPT 14 - APRIL 4 Expand

Dates: 2nd Saturdays, September 14-April 4
Time: 9:30-11:30 AM
Facilitators: Lisa Menchinger and Melissa McPhail
Location:  CLC 5&6
Cost: $20 (includes the book)

1st Timothy
The Apostle Paul is writing to instruct a young Pastor Timothy in Ephesus on the prescriptive and descriptive ambition of pastoral ministry. The Apostle Paul will warn of false teaching, which is always a threat to sound doctrine and pastoral ministry, and yet this letter has much to say on how one behaves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Pastor Timothy’s aim was to guard the deposit entrusted to him and to steward the faith for the next generation, but ultimately, for the glory of God.

Registration for Proverbs, Revelation, 1st & 2nd Thessalonians and 1st Timothy begins August 1

SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDIES

HEBREWS | SEPT 24 - LATE APRIL | (various times) Expand

Date: September 24 - Late April
Times & Locations: See options below
Taught: By a Teaching Team
Cost: $30 for the semester (Includes book)

Format: Each woman in a weekly small group has the opportunity to continue with her group for up to three years, with trained leaders who are engaged in the lives of their group members. The emphasis is on building relationships in the church that help women grow in grace and knowledge as they do life together. Tuesday morning on-campus small groups meet for 90 minutes followed by teaching in a large group setting. Satellite small groups will follow a different format.

No other book in the New Testament integrates the Gospel with the Old Testament better than the book of Hebrews. The author of this epistle reveals Christ as greater than the prophets, angels, Moses, and the Levitical priests. The author argues, all the ceremonies, sacrifices, and offices of the Old Testament foreshadow the person and work of Jesus Christ. In light of so great a salvation, Hebrews encourages us to run the race before us in faithfulness and perseverance. We will spend the fall semester focusing on the entire book of Hebrews and in the spring take a closer look at Hebrews 11, the “by faith” chapter.

ONE GRAND STORY: The Unfolding Plan of Redemption | Tuesdays, March 3 - March 31 | 6:30PM Expand

Dates: Tuesdays, March 3 - March 31
Times & Location: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM | Campus Outreach House Conference Room
Taught: Carolyn Carpenter

Cost: $15

Often the Bible is viewed as a collection of disconnected stories. Instead, the Bible is one grand story from Genesis through Revelation showing our need for a Savior, how God provided One, and how He is orchestrating our salvation in the drama of redemption. The grand story (metanarrative) is comprised of many smaller stories throughout the Old and New Testament narratives, and it is reinforced in the law, poetry, prophecy, and epistles.

We will focus on how all of Scripture fits into the big picture (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration) and how all of it points to Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.

Bible Study Fees

Why do we charge a fee for Bible studies at Christ Covenant?  There are several reasons for this philosophical and practical dynamic:

  • There are costs associated with Bible studies that are not covered by the church operating budget. The budget, determined by our Session, cannot assume the burden of these costs.
  • The largest cost incurred by our Bible studies is childcare. Some of that cost is assigned to families who use the childcare benefit, but we have determined to share that cost among all Bible study participants. This is one aspect of our covenantal relationship to one another. It is one way that we fulfill the vows that we take when our little people are baptized into our church family.  It is one way that we can help these moms and dads in the nurture of their children.

Financial Assistance

If the fees associated with Bible studies and/or childcare are prohibitive for your family, please do not hesitate to contact us! Contact Teresa Caldwell for details.
