Bongo is the Church Planting Resident at Union Chapel (Formally known as Hope City Presbyterian) in Cape Town, South Africa. This is his second year of the residency program.
As a soon-to-be church planter, he has had the opportunity to go through a course on the Westminster Standards along with two more courses on Covenant Theology and Presbyterian Church Polity. Alongside these courses, he has had the privilege of being hands-on alongside the pastoral team in the day-to-day affairs of the church. He teaches a Bible study group and occasionally teaches and leads on Lord’s Day Worship.
His wife, Sibulele, works full-time as a Business Development Leader for an IT company. She helps out at the church with sound and media and is also on the Sunday School roster.
“The area we aim to plant a church in is under the shadow of Africa’s most prestigious university, The University of Cape Town. Many of the people who grace this area from the students to faculty go on to impact the world in significant ways. Having a gospel-centered church here could prove to be very effective for Africa and the world at large.”
Prayer Requests
- Pray, as an important part of this year is gathering a core group/team to plant with. Please pray that God would lead us to the right people for this church plant.
- Pray for Sibulele (my wife) as we make this transition from our sending church to planting a church.
- Pray for our partnership to have all the qualities needed in order to bear gospel fruit.
