Stewart is a North Carolina native; he was born in Morganton and grew up in Mount Holly. He graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BA in Spanish. In the year between graduation and becoming a full time student at RTS Charlotte, he taught Spanish. He earned his MDiv from RTS Charlotte and joined the faculty of Covenant Day School to teach Bible Doctrine and Spanish 4. He joined Christ Covenant as Pastor of Youth Ministries in 2015.
The Pastor of Youth Ministries serves as a part of the Student Families community, focusing on the church’s ministry to 6th-12th grade students through both middle school and senior high groups. Stewart’s primary responsibility is to lead, train, vision cast and structure the youth staff, including our volunteers. He plans the curriculum for the HS Sunday school and the Wednesday night High School discipleship ministry called Link. He also helps recruit and train adult “Link Leader” volunteers and recruit and train students on each of our student leadership teams.
Stewart also plans and oversees Seek the City, the annual mission initiative, the fall and spring youth retreats and a new short-term overseas mission trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He also serves parents and students in counseling situations, meeting with parents and students who either pursue him or need to be pursued.
In cooperation with Covenant Day School, Stewart facilitates the Matthews Elementary tutoring program by organizing, communicating and driving Covenant Day students to Matthews Elementary School for mentoring and tutoring each week. He also partners with the school through their events, chapels, prayer gatherings and other school events.
Stewart’s vision for the youth ministry is to cultivate a community of mature disciples of Christ who serve Christ and others. This can be accomplished as we prayerfully administer the means of grace, engage in the life of the cross-generational church and engage our students in discipleship relationships with others more mature in the faith. He wants to encourage staff and volunteer leaders and to provide a consistent presence as a teacher, leader and discipler.
Stewart and his wife Gabrielle have a one-year-old son, Ezra. “Gabe” served as Assistant Director of High School Ministries at Christ Covenant before Stewart became Pastor of Youth Ministries.
