About this study
God called Samuel as prophet to bring His people out of the dark, chaotic time of the judges to establish a monarchy. Although an earthly king to rule under Him was part of God’s plan, the rebellious people demanded a king for the wrong reasons, rejecting God as their King. Samuel was used to prepare the Israelites to receive the anointed king, the throne and dynasty of King David. Through the line of David came the ultimate king, King Jesus. As we study passages from 1&2 Samuel it can give encouragement, seeing God was still at work during a dark time in history to bring about His plan of salvation fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We can evaluate our own lives - our loyalty and devotion to King Jesus. Does my life reflect that He is supreme ruler as my King, or have I placed other things on the throne in my life?
