Tom Groelsema is native to Michigan where he was the senior pastor for over two decades at First Christian Reformed Church in Byron Center, Michigan. He is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, where he received his BA in History, and of Westminster Seminary California in Escondido, California, where he earned his master of divinity. Tom also serves on the board for Westminster Seminary California. He is also a graduate of Calvin Seminary’s special program for ministerial candidates. Before arriving at First CRC, Tom was senior pastor at Bunde Christian Reformed Church in Clara City, Minnesota for seven years.
Tom and his wife Sheri were married in 1990. They are the parents of four adult children — one son and three daughters—and are also proud grandparents.Tom’s hobbies include golf, running, reading, gardening, and following Michigan football. He and Sheri prize their time together and their opportunities to be with their growing family.
As our Executive Pastor, Tom is a pastor to the pastors and serves and supports the Senior Pastor Kevin DeYoung. He empowers leaders, ministries, and the congregation by managing and executing the strategic direction of the church. Tom manages the staff, is a pastor to the pastors, and works closely with the Senior Director of Church Administration in planning, organizing, and implementing the Vision and Mission of Christ Covenant Church.
