About this study

Fall 2021-Winter 2022- Studying Colossians

Is your hope fully set on Christ, or do fears, doubts, and unbelief tend to dominate your life? Are you tempted to forget your union with Christ as your true identity? Colossians is written to educate, encourage, and comfort you in the word of truth, the gospel. The gospel is not only powerful enough to save us, it is powerful enough to maintain us, safe and secure in Christ. God has equipped us to continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel (Colossians 1:23). These 14 lessons will serve to cultivate your confidence that the grace of God is sufficient to perfect and complete your faith.

Spring 2022- Studying A Holy Fear, by Christina Fox

Fear-it's something we all experience. Fears about the future, an illness, or what others might think about us can rule our hearts and steal our joy. Did you know, though, that the Bible commands Christians to fear?

Believers are to fear the Lord. But what does that mean? In A Holy Fear, Christina Fox unpacks what the 'fear of the Lord' means and what it looks like in our lives. By giving examples of such fear in the Bible, exploring the fruits of that fear in our lives, and uncovering God's promises to those who fear Him, this book will help you disarm your lesser fears, applying what you learn to your heart and turning to a fear of the Lord. Join Small Group Bible Studies as we conclude the year with a six week study of this wonderful book!

Study Format and Homework

Format: This study includes personal Bible study, small group discussion, and lecture-style teaching.  Ladies work on the inductive study at home, studying the scriptures and answering the weekly questions.  They then meet with a small group facilitated by two or three small group leaders for 1-1.5 hours (depending on the group) to discuss the weekly questions and fellowship.  A 25-minute recorded lecture is then emailed to all participants for them to listen to at home.  This year, the lecture will be audio recorded so ladies have flexibility in how to listen.

Homework: There will be two options for homework for the Colossians study.  Participants are encouraged to complete the full five days of homework each week, time permitting.  Those ladies in a busy season of life who cannot commit to the full five days of homework each week are encouraged to instead complete days 1, 3, and 5.  Group discussion will focus on these three days, so ladies who choose the three day option will still be prepared for group discussion each week. We hope this will allow women from many different seasons of life to be able to participate in Small Group Bible Studies!  Depending on the option you chose, the time commitment for homework is approximately 1-2.5 hours per week.

Small Group Bible Studies is a great way for ladies who may be new to the church, or new to studying the Bible, to enjoy fellowship, get to know other women at Christ Covenant, and learn more about how to study scripture.  It is also wonderful for seasoned women who have been studying scripture for many years!
